Since 1948, the UN has had 71 peacekeeping operations in Africa, North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. More than a million people were part of the peacekeeping operations, far more than the total number of people who worked for the UN in other actions.

Since the founding of the first UN peacekeeping mission in 1948, more than 3,100 soldiers, police, and civilians have lost their lives in the service. More than 80,000 troops, 12,500 police officers, and 17,000 civilians served in 15 UN peacekeeping missions on four continents.

His Highness Prince Academician Prof. Dr. Bajram Haliti emphasized: “I firmly believe that the exceptional cooperation between the NGO sector and the United Nations will continue as long as we are honoring the purpose and principles of the UN Charter. He also concluded that the creators of the United Nations and the Charter have distinctly stated that the most important task is “Maintaining international peace and security by peaceful means.” and that the UN will be “ready to take collective measures to prevent and eliminate threats to peace and to suppress acts of attack or other violations and disruption of peace.” (Article 1 of the Charter).

The establishment of the O UN represents important progress in the process of institutionalizing international peace and security.
